I know you think the liberal character you do on Fox News is comparable to Colbert or Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin but it’s not even in the same universe. They are mimicking Republicans using actual quotes. You have created a cartoon character who spouts bullcrap no liberal would ever say. That’s called a “straw man” argument (look it up). Not that it matters. Your irrelevant show is on at 4 in the morning and nobody watches it.
Sincerely,
Matt M.
Dearest Matt,
It’s not Street Carnage’s guy, it’s mine. Also, you don’t know what I think, “bullcrap” is a gay word, Red Eye is on at 3 and gets about half a million viewers a night (virtually all DVR’d) while prime timers like Piers Morgan and Anderson Cooper are lucky to get half that. And finally, I don’t think you have the depth to really understand the sheer genius that is Miles. Allow me to break it down for you by giving time stamped quotes accompanied by the real life examples from which they are derived.
Sincerely,
Gavin Miles McInnes
A joke gets cut out at the beginning here. Something about Miles being pro-welfare because he doesn’t hate black people the way Republicans do.
5:12 THE GOP CLAIM TO BE THE JESUS PARTY BUT THEY DON’T WANT TO HELP PEOPLE
During OWS, I heard this a lot. They said Republicans are hypocrites for invoking Christ but not helping people. This is based on the assumption that welfare and handouts and housing projects are good for the poor. I don’t think this is a given. There is plenty of evidence that Roosevelt’s New Deal made blacks worse off because it took away their pride and sense of self achievement. The Indians don’t seem to be faring too well with their handouts either. Anyway, no matter how you feel about it, it is a real quote. As the LA Times put it, ”Many Republicans believe theirs is the party of Jesus Christ, but, in practice, they are the party of an atheist, Hollywood intellectual named Ayn Rand.”
5:30 THE TOP RICHEST 1,000 PEOPLE HAVE MORE MONEY THAN THE POOREST 3 BILLION
Oliver Stone said “in a world in which the richest 300 or 500 or 1,000 people have more wealth than the poorest 3 billion“ while defending himself against The Daily Beast’s Michael Moynihan. Sorry Stone but in a world where two thirds of the world’s billionaires started from scratch, this in and of itself is not an example of injustice. Or, as Breitbart would put it, “So?”
8:04 VOTE FOR OBAMA NEXT ELECTION
This is mostly a conservative fear but it’s not an absurd “straw man” concept. People laughed when they said Bloomberg would change term limits to get reelected, again, but it happened. There has also been much talk about amending the constitution to allow foreign borns like Schwarzenegger to run for president.
7:51 WE WANT TO TURN CHILDREN INTO LITTLE ROBOTS SO THEY CAN WORK AT THE FACTORIES
I’m afraid this comes from my favorite anarcho-punk band Crass. In the song “Systematic Death” Eve Libertine sings, “A child is born… Force him to crawl… Taught to fit the plan / Forty years of jobs / pushing little buttons / pulling little knobs.”
12:22 THE UNION FOREVER
All those lyrics are real Billy Bragg lyrics because, like a lot of pro-union types, he sees no difference between coal miners in the 1930s and teachers who get 4 months of holidays a year.
13:06 THE SCABS GET ALL THE BENEFITS WHILE THE UNION PAYS
Right before Crowder got his ass kicked by union thugs they claimed, “They can suck all the parasitical [sic] benefits and wages that unions have negotiated and they get it for free.”
16:00 I WOULD RATHER EVERYONE GOT POORER IF IT MEANT WE’D ALL BE EQUAL
This is what Stone was getting at with his rich VS. poor stat and it’s a common Socialist belief. This is why Margaret Thatcher called out the “honorable gentleman” and said, “he would rather that the poor were poorer, provided that the rich were less rich.” A lot of liberals are more focussed on their hatred of money-making than they are with any kind of justice. Remember when Fran Liebowitz said, “No one earns $100 million. You steal $100 million.” Go tell a biotech entrepreneur who is finding cancer cures that he stole his $100 million.
16:30 IF ONE BABY HAS 4 BUILDING BLOCKS AND THE OTHER HAS NONE, SHOULDN’T HE SHARE?
This was actually in the comments on Street Carnage but I can’t be bothered digging it up now. I find totally juvenile analogies are common with the far left and I believe it’s because that’s about as deep as they go with their beliefs. Things like, “Don’t you think less guns would be good?” and “Shouldn’t someone down on their luck get a helping hand?” are questions babies ask.
19:32 FOCUSSING ON THAT GIRL WHO WAS SHOT BY THE TALIBAN FOR WANTING EDUCATION IS DIVISIVE
I don’t know how many times I’ve come across this whole, “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem” bullshit. If you have something bad to say about Muslims, you have to keep it to yourself because it’s hate speech. If it’s true, then it’s a hate fact. Feminists clam up when discussing Islam’s treatment of women and gays would rather bitch about marriage than criticize the Middle East for making their very existence a capital offense.
20:09 EXTREMISTS JUST NEED TO BE EDUCATED
retty much every time I talk to a liberal about multiculturalism they talk about all the great restaurants. When I mention the less convenient elements like female circumcision they say, “They just need to be educated.” Who needs to take a class in not cutting children’s vaginas?
25:26 ONE RELIGION DOMINATES THE ENTIRE MONTH OF DECEMBER
Fuck! I would kill to remember where I heard this line. I think it was in some kind of snarky jingle about America where comedians were laughing at this fact without acknowledging that they live in a country that is 75% Christian.
27:15 HOW ABOUT A PAGAN CHRISTMAS?
You’re not supposed to call Christmas Christmas anymore because of separation of church and state or something but the holiday is actually a pagan ritual. Jesus was born in the fall. This isn’t an example of Miles saying things liberals say but I had to stick it in here to show he doesn’t just say random shit for no reason. Also, though the bible is technically about 2000 years old, most Christians say it took 1,500 years to write so it’s more like 3,000 years old. I actually feel bad Miles had to take shit for this because he wasn’t wrong.
30:56 IT’S GOOD WHITES ARE GETTING WIPED OUT BECAUSE “WE” WILL LIVE LONGER
On Jezebel, a white fool named Hugo Schwyzer said, “The end of white men is good for white men” because, “We’ll probably live longer.” His logic goes like this: Hispanics tend to have longer life spans so when American becomes Hispanic “we” will live longer. See what he did there? He just jumped races by using the royal we and now he’s a long living Hispanic. Congratulations, dead person.
32:49 THE WHITE MAN IS THE BIGGEST LIAR ON EARTH
This is a Farrakhan quote that Malcolm X repeated a lot and it’s been sampled by Consolidated and Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy.
38:48 OBESITY IS A DISEASE
Yes people believe this despite no other country having as many fat people as we do. I honestly don’t get how anyone that fat can complain about anything. Do you know how much food you have to ingest and how little work you have to do to become 350 lbs? You’d have to be constantly stuffing your face and watching movies at home all day. Complaining about how hard your life is when you’re that fat is like a guy with no skin left on his penis complaining about how hard it is for people who masturbate 300 times a day.
Anyway, Miles is not a straw man caricature with no basis in reality. He’s real. I know because I used to be him.
-GAVIN McINNES
Miles is an idiotic schmuck. I used to be him too.
“a wise man needn’t prove his point” – some guy without the interweb
Holy shit this was painful to watch
There are just as many misinformed liberal zealots as there are conservative ones. That door swings both ways.
Miles is one of the most lovable imbeciles on tv. Someone should give him a show, prop up his career and shower him with meaningless awards like NBC does for Tina Fey.
On the contrary, Matt M., “bullcrap” is something only a liberal would say. I bet you even said the word aloud in whatever Starbucks you were occupying as you furiously touchscreen typed this email.
Miles is the best character!! he needs his own talk show.
“44% believe santa claus was a democrat”
And I’d bet the day you turned out of Miles and into Anne Coulters little buddy is when you got your big fat Vice cheque.
classic Gav
I appreciate you addressing this, but I just have to say, your position completely boggles me, honestly. I just do not understand it.
Because I’m a bitch:

Everyone knows Miles is a fraud. If he was real he would have a Scottish accent like his father.
“Pretty much every time I talk to a liberal about multiculturalism they talk about all the great restaurants”. Well, you shouldn’t hang around with dumb people. It isn’t about restaurants or “female circumcision”. Everything you say about your arguments with “libtards” seems to suggest that they involve two dumb people talking shit back and forward. Both of you would probably be better off reading a book.
just for fun:

Dogby:
Then there area LOT of stupid people out there because the “all the great restaurants” line is used constantly up here in Toronto by politicians, media mavens, academics and other fancy folks.
If they’re stupid, then you should share my concern that these are the people in charge of the world.
And what is the “it” you’re referring to? Maybe you aren’t concerned about female genital mutilation, but millions of people are, and with good reason. Why don’t you care about Muslim women?
I’ve noticed lately that liberals have adopted the desperate and ineffective “it’s not about THAT” rhetorical feint. Whenever I hear them use it, I know that “it” really IS about whatever “that” is.
“colonialism is white men saving brown women from brown men”^
Also, I have a dream that Gavin will do a overtly Jewish neo con character who intimidates
oops, who intimidates the interviewer with losing his job if he asks hard questions and keeps forgetting the difference between Israel and the US. something like that.
Kathy – I know this comment is a bit serious for this forum but the “it” I refer to is multiculturalism. The word has a myriad of meanings but I believe it refers to the ability of different ethnic communities to live within one nation and retain ethnic cultural identities. This already happens in the US and even more so Canada. Part of the reason why both of those countries are so successful. Half of Toronto is foreign born and so of course that is happening (remarkably successfully – you should be proud). The fact of multiculturalism has been created by economic globalization (yes, capitalism is a progressive force) and the policies that have enabled it by government intervention. Of course the issue is that certain values (like female equality) are embedded in ethnic cultures. If those values run counter to national values (in your case these have been handily written down by in Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms) and laws then of course they cannot be tolerated. Female circumcision is illegal in the US for example. The benefits of ,multiculturalism are not only “great restaurants” but economic growth and wealth creation (read “Borderless Economics” by Robert Guest or look at the debates around immigration and Silicon Valley). The West can continue to cling to an old ideals of cultural dominance and certainly Europeans and those of European descent have every right to celebrate their ethnic cultures and the contributions they make to their nations (I am sure in Toronto you have plenty of Italians, Irish, Scots etc. who do so). But I do not think that it benefits anyone to prevent others from freely doing the same within the law.
@Dogboy
“Part of the reason why both of those countries are so successful.”
Please explain how multiculturalism makes countries successful.
Please explain how multiculturalism makes countries successful.
Well, the US has experienced waves of immigration. That in itself has boosted the population and maintained a young working population at key times in its history. Now, that’s argument for immigration. But those immigrants have maintained their ethnic cultures (at least initially). They have brought new ideas and they created economies within their closed ethnic communities. These facts also drove innovation and economic growth. They have also maintained ties to their ethnic diasporas globally – and that is increasingly possible and likely these days. You can compare this to countries like Japan that inhibit immigration and promote “assimilation” who are much less likely to experience these benefits. It is no coincidence that some of the most economically successful immigrants are those ethnicities who maintain (initially) a strong sense of ethnic identity and seperateness from the host population – even those who are discriminated against such as the Chinese and Jews.
And for Gavin ….Hey, great restaurants, man.
Calling yourself something like a “conservative” or a “liberal”, and arguing about it is the ultimate thing babies do. It’s so funny how you’re exactly the thing you mock, you’re it’s inverted twinsie…
“It is no coincidence that some of the most economically successful immigrants are those ethnicities who maintain (initially) a strong sense of ethnic identity and seperateness from the host population – even those who are discriminated against such as the Chinese and Jews.”
Correlation between “seperateness” from host population and economic success? Bit of a stretch.
I’d suggest more likely indicator of economic success would be colective/average intelligence of ethnicity.
@tw – Of course there are other factors – intelligence is one but probably important is the degree to which those communities are urbanized, the institutions that exist in those cultures etc. Nevertheless, multiculturalism formalizes their ability to be distinct. Attempts to “assimilate” these communities would destroy the economies they create within them and ultimately not be beneficial to national economic success.
@DB – Thanks. That post just sent me down memory lane to my days as a 1st year grad student. Those were the days, hippie chicks, glass bongs, wake and bakes, and theories that sound good but are impossible to substantiate and don’t make much sense once you wade through the superfluous language.
It does sound good though.
@tw Sorry my post doesn’t make much sense to you. You are not the only one to find these concepts hard to understand. That is why Gavin and others prefer “Good restaurants!” vs. “Female circumcision!” It is a lot simpler. If there is anything you want me to clarify I can try and do so but this is probably not the right forum. As I said above, I would recommend “Borderless Economics” by Robert Guest. He’s obviously much better explaining these concepts. Although as you are a student (congrats on making it through year 1 – glad you had a good time!) so you should probably be focusing on other reading.
Not a student, made it through year 1 of grad school in ’92, hence the “memory lane” reference – MA ’94, J.D. ’97. This being said, thanks for the words of encouragement.
As far as your post not making sense, concept isn’t hard to grasp, same old tired bull shit folks like Guest(never heard of him and too ambivalent to google right now) have been trotting out for years.
I used to cringe when I heard/read phrases such as “multiculturalsim formalizes their ability to be distinct” – now I cant help but smile. Anyway, I feel certain Mr. Guest is a learned man. I also am fairly certain he’s full of shit, but I’m sure eloquently so.
I didn’t change your mind? That must be a first in the history of the internet.
You’re a genius and you “get it” everyone else can STFU
I love Miles. If only his Dad could be on the show at the same time! (But your middle name is “Miles”? That shit is gaaayyyyy!)
Mike Vivian Higginbottum O’Fierce
At Dogboy: You say that Gavin`s comment about people talking associating multiculturalism with great restaurants is not typical. I know this is anecdotal, but I`ve heard this a lot, and from people who wouldn`t be considered `dumb.` Just for one example, I used to work for a major international mutual fund company, which brought on a British-born guy to be president of the whole company. Shortly after his tenure began, we watched a video of a Q&A forum he had with employees at company headquarters, in which someone in the audience asked him how he would “describe diversity.“ Stupid, time-wasting question — esp. considering this was right at a time of major financial turmoil. So what does Mr. President respond with? Well, he recalled, when he was a boy in Britain, there were really very few good restaurants, the food was bland, and then all the diversity came in and the food got so much more interesting. So, no, this is not a straw man characterization of liberals, it`s a very common answer people will give.
So corny it hurts. Who cares if your points are right. I can’t handle the awkward laughter.
I just watch this show when Gavin is on, hillarious in every character (or himself).
I’m more interested in the Gucci shirt. Is it because liberals claim to hate the wealthy but still idolize the upper-class, lust after expensive goods, and shit on lower-class people?
I watched this episode and thought it great. Did anyone let Prager know that Miles is a character?
@Budsky – I guess it is not a response given by dumb people but it is a dumb response. The British president was obviously not familiar with US corporate HR lore and therefore didn’t know the stock response. And a British head of a mutual fund company may indeed be smart but is probably also not the most thoughtful person out there. But my main point was that if Gavin and one of his seemingly endless supply of “libtard” friends are discussing multiculturalism one says “great restaurants” and the other says “female cirumcision”, it’s not just one of them that’s being dumb.
this is geriatric humor.
move along fella, you’re gettin’on in yer years.
[...] Anyhow, lefties are complaining about the “Miles” character. McInnes fights back, wielding this classic line: [...]
