There is no reason why a daytime courtroom tragedy played 50 percent slower than intended should be this funny. Sure, the case itself is ridiculous, everyone sounds like they chewed up a fistful of downers and the reduced speed turns the obese defendant’s gruff testimonial into the coy plea of a southern belle (see 3:25) — but that doesn’t explain it all. In the end, it’s just another bizarre phenomenon at the intersection of television and the human psyche, like snuff porn or the popularity of Two and a Half Men.

I think this is so hilarious because we have all been as fucked up as they sound, and have had similar conversations in this state, but perhaps in a less formal setting.
