I used to laugh at students who bitch about college debt. You saw how much it costs when you signed up. What are you complaining about? The riots in Quebec were over a tuition hike that came to a few hundred bucks.

However, if the riots in Quebec were more about the overall decay of higher education, I get what they’re saying. For every generation before them “college education” meant “bright future.” It was affordable and effective. If you worked hard you’d graduate with a diploma you could use. Today, you leave with a debt you can’t  handle and a degree that is totally useless. That wasn’t the deal. Students today are worse off after higher education than they were before. That’s like going to an expensive restaurant and leaving with food poisoning. You knew there was going to be a bill, you just figured it would be worth it. Even though old liberals are responsible for this mess, young liberals are right to be furious. Conservative pundit Bill Whittle puts it beautifully here…

I honestly don’t see why anyone would go to university anymore if they aren’t taking math and science. How are you better off than someone who interned for four years accruing a tenth of the debt? Anyway, I forgot to include all this when I wrote my “10 THINGS THE LEFT GETS RIGHT” for my Taki column on Friday. Please check it out.

I read that article on Friday. The thing I don’t get about it is machine guns. They are legal but I thought the NRA doesn’t really care about them either way. Do gun owners actually want machine guns? I know criminals don’t. They want things that are easy to hide like handguns.

Doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers don’t need specific training? Internships are a good idea but for some fields it takes a fucking masters to get your foot in the door.

My school is on there! Sadly, I’ll never get to taste those juices in the new gymnasium.

even math and science degrees are worthless these days. and bush is to blame for ruining the economy and the job market.

  5. Mr. Belvedere says:

Gavin – in reference to the article from Taki – this is a line from #8 –

“The teachers’ unions have so many lobbyists on both ends of the political spectrum, they reserve the right to let a pedophile hang out with your kid.”

Is this in reference to something other than the Sandusky mess? I hope so, because if you’re trying to tie that public teacher’s unions, you’re making leaps of logic not even a liberal could follow.

    *tie that into

  8. stank stanky says:

Regarding whether or not to go to college, it should be common sense that it’s pointless to go if want to major in something stupid and useless like Art History, or The History of Tampons. If you’re not a dumbass though, then science and engineering majors are probably still worth it.
